Verbal Telephone Orders

With the required permission and organisation settings users may utilise the Verbal Telephone Order function.

Prescribe

A nurse with the Prescribe with Verbal Telephone Order permission prescribes a medication as above. In the Medication Reason field, select Verbal Telephone Order. A new field will appear for you to record the name of the Doctor who will authorise the prescription. Add the medication.
The medication will be added to the Current Medications and Scripts lists with an amber coloured telephone icon and the name of the person who has been requested to authorise the medication.

Request for authorisation

A secure message will be sent to the authorising doctor. (They will receive an email to the regular email account advising them that they have a new MMEx message.) When the Doctor logs in to MMEx and checks their Inbox, they will see the new message. The message contains details of the medication to be authorised. Click on View this Patient's Medication to open the patient record and display the VTO authorisation fields.

Authorise/Don't Authorise

In the Patient record, the authoriser will see the following above the medications table.
Select Authorise Now or Mark as Not Authorised (Record a reason for not authorising the medication)

  • Clicking Authorise now will authorise the medication and change the telephone icon and authorising person's details green and a secure message advising the outcome will be received.
  • Clicking Mark as Not Authorised will highlight the medication in pink (though it may appear pale yellow on some screen displays and change the telephone icon and authorising person's details to red. A secure message advising the outcome will be received.
