A new pathology request will open with the currently open patient details populating. If no patient record is open, you will be prompted to select one before opening the form. If the user has set up ‘My Profile’ with a favourite ‘Default Patient Pathology Lab Template’, then that will filter to their selected choice every time.

If the user does not have a defined favourite pathology lab template, then the ‘Provider’ field will default to that same lab template that was used for the previous order.

  • Request Date field will default to the current date
  • the Provider and Paper to be printed on.
  • Referred By field will be populated by default with your name, this can be changed if you are requesting on behalf of another clinician

    • Doctor
    • Clinician

  • My Health Record - a check box allows the patient to determine that the results are NOT uploaded to their My Health Record.

Adding a Test

In the field below Tests Required, start to type the name of the test you want - the search shortlist will filter as you type. This list is populated by a database that is the RCPA / SNOMED CT industry standard for test requests.

Diagnostic Test Templates that have been created will display in this list with a heart symbol. (see here for information about creating diagnostic test templates)
When selected the template content will display to show you the tests that will be added.

The name of the custom test template will not display on the form and individual tests can be added and removed after selection.

You can also select individual tests from the list to be recorded on the pathology form:
When you add a test, a free text field will display that can be used to record specimen site details if required for the test.

Add custom tests
Click on Add Custom Test
Free-text Test and Specimen Site fields will appear in the test name section where you can write the test name (One test per line). The content of these fields may be overwritten if correction is required. Click Remove to remove the entry. The test name and site data will save when the pathology request is saved.
