Diagnostic Test Requests

Pathology

Pathology Requests can be accessed a number of ways:

  • On the requests tabs of the Diagnostics/Results worklist, or Diagnostics/Results Tab of the patient record, click on the Add new… button and select Pathology Request (see image below)
  • Use the Global Search field to type in Pathology Request
  • Go to the Pathology Request link on the Forms page
  • Direct linking buttons on a range of forms and pages throughout MMEx

A new pathology request will open with the currently open patient details populating. If no patient record is open, you will be prompted to select one before opening the form. As Pathology Request forms are designed to collect the information requested by the chosen provider, the fields visible will change depending on the pathology form you have selected to print.

Request Date field will default to the current date, the Lab and Paper to be printed on will remember your previous selection. Referred By field will be populated by default with your name.

  • The Send To is required if you wish to send the result to another MMEx user through the send & complete button.
  • The Copy To (CC:) is an optional field which can be used to request the result be copied (CC:) to an additional user.

Adding a Test

In the field below Tests Required, start to type the name of the test you want - the search shortlist will filter as you type. This list is populated by a database that is the RCPA industry standard for test requests.

Custom Diagnostic Test Templates that have been created will display in this list with a heart symbol. (see here for information about creating diagnostic test templates)

When selected the template content will display to show you the tests that will be added.

The name of the custom test template will not display on the form and individual tests can be added and removed after selection.

You can also select individual tests from the list to be recorded on the pathology form:
When you add a test, a free text field will display that can be used to record specimen site details if required for the test.

Add custom tests
Click on Add Custom Test
Free-text Test and Specimen Site fields will appear in the test name section where you can write the test name (One test per line). The content of these fields may be overwritten if correction is required. Click Remove to remove the entry. The test name and site data will save when the pathology request is saved.

Import overdue care plan activities
- if this button is not visible, the setting needs to be turned on for your organisation
Click on Import Overdue Care Plan Activities

A pop up will display all overdue pathology care plan activities. They will be checked for selection by default.

Uncheck any you do not wish to include and click Add Selected items to Tests Required

As well as adding clinical notes for the tester. you may also select from a range of notes check boxes to the right side of the Clinical Notes field.(NB: the availability of these options depends on the pathology provider form being used)

The request can be saved as a draft if you need to do something else and wish to resume at a later date, by clicking the Save as draft button at the top of the request.

Otherwise upon completion of the request you must sign in the signature field at the bottom of the request (if set as a mandatory field by your organisation) and then you can select either Save and Complete, Send and Complete or Print and Complete from the top of the request. NB: You cannot send, print or edit a request from the diagnostics/reports screen once it has been completed.

The Pathology Request will save as a PDF in the Patient documents list (if you need to print it again you will locate it here) and as a smart form, available in the following locations:
